Ramiro Garza, Jr. was appointed Edinburg City Manager in November, 2009. Mr. Garza is responsible for the general administration and operations of all City services as directed by the Mayor and City Council overseeing 700 employees and a $100 million operational budget. Under the tenure and leadership of Mr. Garza, the City has expanded and modernized city services and expanded infrastructure for the City of Edinburg; the City has secured $25 million in grants that have helped improved quality of life that include economic development, law enforcement, transportation and community development projects; and the City of Edinburg’s credit rating has increased to AA which represents sound financial management. Mr. Garza also collaborated with the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation in recruiting new economic development projects that will generate over $1.2 billion into the Edinburg economy that includes the expansion of Doctor’s Hospital of Renaissance and building an 8,500 seat arena.
Before becoming the Edinburg City Manager, Mr. Garza served as Executive Director of the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation from 2000 until 2009. A native of Port Isabel, he graduated from Port Isabel High School and obtained a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Brownsville. He is also a graduate of the Economic Development Institute from the University of Oklahoma and is certified in Economic Development from the International Economic Development Council.
In 2015, Mr. Garza was appointed Chairman of the Rio South Texas Economic Council. RSTEC brings our communities together to market the Rio Grande Valley. Mr. Garza is very active in state and local community affairs serving on the Interstate 69 State Advisory Committee, as a director of the Texas Lyceum organization, board member of the Workforce Solutions–Lower Rio Grande Valley, and board member of the Women’s Business Center. He is married to Maria Esquivel Garza and they have two children, Ramiro Andres and Juliana Audrina.
